I could just post this video and tell you who it’s produced by, who shot it, and when it dropped. But I got a little more to say this time around (watch the video and then read on….)
K-Hill and I go way back. As in way back to early in the last decade, before I even started making beats (but while I was still djing a mixshow at NCSU). The first song I ever heard by him was “heavenly father” which was produced by another person who I had recently met, Khrysis:
When I was first getting serious about making beats, K-Hill was the first person to actually record over a beat I made. I remember feeling proud to finally have someone drop over one of my joints. Overall I think K-Hill and I have done about three joints total together.
One thing I’ve always appreciated about Hill is his honesty and advice. He always gave me tips and he really helped me guide myself into “my sound” in the early stages. I also got the majority of my recording/engineering skills by record verses for him at my first apartment / makeshift studio setup.
K-Hill was one of the few people that Amen and I looked to for collaborations, and actually held one of only two guest verses on our album 12 Step program. On “Keep It Moving” Hill dropped one of the realest and most heartfelt verses I’d heard. Hill has the unique ability to make the listener relate to his emotions. Just check the realness:
got a scholarship but it wasn’t a full ride, i needed money for books you told me you had that
and years later still i’m like “where is my dad at?” / dropped out now i’m thinking “dad is a f*g, black”
went back to college, got dumped by sheena, met toiya, dropped 2 kids and switched my demeanor
and i’m no longer haunted by that deadbeat demon, you got grandkids and you need to see em
but if not, we keep it movin.

He also collaborated with us on the first mixtape we dropped, by producing and rapping on “The Pulse”, yes he is a BEAST on beats too, a true double threat in the game. This is from our mixtape “Happy Hour” which featured A rapping on other producers beats. He ripped this verse, I mean RIPPED.

Anyway, I could really go on all day about Hill, but you really need his mixtape “Stamps Of Approval” in your life if you don’t already have it. The bottom line is I truly appreciate Hill for everything he’s contributed to my career and life in general (when are we gonna do a mixtape?)
The video at the top of this post was shot by Big Hop and the song was produced by my brother from another mother Nicktha1da (if you’ve followed by blog you’ve seen me post about him before, but I feel like I want to do a long post about him as well. PS when you coming to NC?!?). Follow them all on twitter: @hillwithers and @nicktha1da and @whoisbighop
