Leslie and Vinay: A Unique Wedding at North Carolina Museum Of Art

Leslie and Vinay’s wedding was one of the most unique events I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of. The North Carolina Museum Of Art is a great venue to have a reception and provides one of the best backdrops for a private event in the triangle.

This wedding was great for me as a DJ because of the music Vinay wanted for the reception. Specifically, funk, soul, and trip-hop mixed with contemporary and classic Indian music. It’s not an every day occurrence to get to play Groove Armada, J Dilla, Fred Wesley, Jessie Ware, etc. at a wedding. To say I appreciated this couple’s taste in music would be an understatement!

Joining me on this musical journey were Beverly Botsford and G2, two very talented and accomplished drummers whom I can’t say enough nice things about. They joined me both during the cocktail portion as well as the dancing portion of the evening.

For dinner we played a mix of mid tempo soul and Indian tunes, nothing too energetic, so that everyone could mingle and chat (and admire the art in the building). Once dinner was finished, the cake was cut and it was party time!

For the dancing portion of the night we cranked the energy up on some funk and soul classics as well as some uptempo Indian music. Beverly and G2 really stood out for this part of the night, accompanying the music and adding a layer of excitement to each track:

Forge played our wedding on short notice. It was a challenging task: a mix of Indian Bollywood classics, trip-hop, and soul, all to be played with two live drummers. Forge took the few requests that I had and did some research and crate-digging He put together such an impressive, astounding mix that got every person on the floor dancing. And he coordinated the setup and drummers so skillfully that we had friends asking for his contact info and the setlist for weeks after! I can't recommend Forge highly enough. We were lucky to have him because he truly made our wedding an unforgettable party.
