It’s hard to pinpoint the exact reason I love this song [besides the fact that it’s a quality jam] but there are several variables that make it music to my ears: 1) production – this beat is a monster [yes I know there is an existing wiz khalifa song using the same sample] 2) singing style on the hook 3) who doesn’t like songs about cars?
Apart from those things the video sets it off even more with an array of classic american metal on display. Even though I may drive fuel efficient import cars, there is a soft place in my heart for american legacy vehicles due mostly to the environment I was raised in. My father at one point owned a chevrolet nova ss as well as an el camino ss [and let us not forget the chevrolet s-10 with the 4.3L V6 that I loved so much as a high schooler]. Plus bragging about horsepower and lighting tires were a mainstay in the area I grew up in. In short, sometimes you can’t deny it: there is no substitue for classic american muscle.
I say all that to say this: this is what separates quality music from manufactured crap on the radio. Music needs to invoke some sort of memory, some sort of emotion for you to attach the song to. Maybe that’s why I love this song so much. It brings me back to the stress free days of my youth when my biggest concern was what songs to play in my ride as I went cruising in my hometown of Pembroke, NC.
At some point in my life I want to grab an old SS and restore it. But for now I’ll stick to enjoying 24-30 MPG
Stalley’s latest project is full of bangers just like this so make sure to grab it here.
