Just in case you don’t follow me on twitter and didn’t get the news, I ended up winning the Red Bull Thre3style competition here in NC (along with DJ Merlin)! We’ll both be heading to Miami this upcoming weekend (3/26 and 3/27) for the next round during winter music conference. I’m gonna do a full update about the event once we come back from Miami (including posting the video of my set from that night as well as tons of pics). But as you can see from this picture, my energy was set to “hi” that night:
Big up to everyone that competed that night, it was an awesome time, and we were all treated to a set by DJ Jazzy Jeff at the end (my favorite part of the night, hehe). HUGE HUGE HUGE THANKS TO EVERYONE THAT CAME OUT TO SUPPORT ME IN THE BATTLE. YOU HELPED ME WIN WITH YOUR ENERGY. THANK YOU.
After the madness that was Thre3style, I flew to Austin on Thursday (3/18) for SXSW to perform alongside Kam Moye. This was both of our first times down there and we were blown away at the amount of shows going on. Our particular show was early in the night (9:30) but still turned out to be pretty packed. Here’s a shot from the crowd (thanks Jakki!)
After our show we started walking around trying to decide what to check out next. We ended up at the detroit showcase where we caught Crown Royale, Invincible, Finale, Slum Village, and Black Milk rock out on stage. What an amazing show, especially if you’re a fan of the detroit sound (LOUD drums and CRAZY basslines). Here’s a shot I got with my iPhone of black milk rocking out (i need to start taking more pics and video, I’m gonna do better, I promise!)
Shout to that venue too (victory grill), I had an amazing catfish sandwhich there just before the show! Speaking of food, I also had a great chopped brisket sandwhich as soon as I got to Austin, and then some good tacos at the end of the night too. Definitely ate way too much especially considering the amount of time I spent there. Which brings me to my next point: my trip to SXSW was way too short. I had to fly back to NC the next day so I could handle Scenario with Son of Sam! By the way, my return flight was approximately four hours late arriving to NC, augghh. I did get a cool backpack with this patch from going though, free stuff excites me!
That night me and Son of Sam rocked out five star for Scenario playing nothing but good hip hop music the whole night through. Shout out to all the people who came to party, and shoutout to the people who had no clue what kind of party we were doing and kept asking for uptempo pop music:
Don’t let the status update fool you though because I’m steadily building a balanced portfolio of parties to play at. With that said, the next night I headed back to Charlotte to spin at Butter, one of NC’s newest and most extravagant venues. Once I walked in I realized this was one of, if not the, nicest venues I’ve been able to spin at. I had a good time, and it seemed like the party people did too (and they came early, let me tell you…I had to get it started off at around 11). Thanks to Butter for having me, looking forward to coming back soon (and for those who have been to NYC, this is the sister club to Butter NYC and 1OAK NYC so if you’re up there check those clubs too!).
As you can see, it’s been a crazy week. It doesn’t stop though, because now I have to use THIS week to get ready for the battle in Miami. Gonna be strange to battle in Miami, not sure I’ll be able to focus with all the sunshine and wmc madness :)
PS If you’ll be at winter music conference, or you live in miami, I would greatly appreciate your support once again for the battle. This time it will be held at Klutch and Jazzy Jeff will be performing again! Red Bull is giving me an extensive guest list, so if you’ll be down there and you want to come check it out, then let me know so I can get you on the list. You have to promise to yell for me in the battle though!
Next stop, miami!
