Joell Ortiz - Can’t You Tell/Ghetto
I swear, this dude drops heater after heater. Can’t wait for Free Agent. Wish I had some beats on that!

Last night was a big night for hip-hop in NYC as Q-Tip performed at the Knitting Factory. From what I’ve read he laid down some classics as well as performed some material from this new album Rennaissance. Check the video below for what could be one of the best shows you never went to. I’m seriously regretting not flying up for this one. I’m hoping a tour is in store and he’ll be making his way down to NC. What happens at 6:48 in to this video is the definition of what makes hip-hop so great. I could feel the energy even just sitting here. Big up MissInfo/MikeyFresh for the video.
This movie is either going to make me extremely happy by blowing my mind, or it’s going to disappoint me and I’ll want to throw something at the movie screen. Hopefully it’s the former as I would hate to see big’s legacy tarnished.
I’ve read these guys’ name at more than a few places, but admittedly haven’t had a chance to get familiar with their music as of yet. I think in this case, the video lends heaps of personality to the song, which could explain why I like it. Looks like I’m gonna have the check these dude’s out.

Brilliant.

If you don’t watch It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, you’re totally missing out. This show is genius. Here’s a promo video they’re running right now, with Jeru remaking “Going Back to Cali” as “Going Back to Philly”
And now a random clip from the show, I present to you, “Dayman.” (via Hulu, which is an awesome site where you can watch episodes of this show and many more!)
(I was going to continue this entry with some music vids of my favorite Philadelphia based artists, but UMG has a lot of those videos blocked from embedding on youtube)

This is SO dope. Big up Toronto!

I don’t know why people keep sleeping on Joell. I think he’s one of the nicest cats doing it right now. Had the opportunity to see him perform at SOBs earlier this year when I went up with Dan. His live show game is second to none, the ENTIRE crowd was rocking with him and knew all the words! Definitely looking forward to hearing Free Agent.
I think Ryan Leslie is HORRIBILY underrated as a producer and artist in general. It astounds me how few plays “Diamond Girl” got in this market (and allover I guess). Anyway, I don’t think I’ve DJed a set anywhere in the last year without playing at least one Ryan Leslie joint. Can’t wait for the album.
Always good to see the home team getting shine!
