Friday Fifteen!!!

January 27th, 2006 by Forge

Well, I said I was gonna put up fifteen songs for being so far behind, so here you go…pardon me if they don’t have lengthy descriptions cause that would take foooooooooooorever (these are in no particular order)

1. MC Lyte - The Wonder Years. Yeah, you read that right, MC Lyte has a new track. What’s more is that primo is on the beat…

2. El Da Sensei - Crowd Pleasa. Illmind on the beat. Sickness!

3. Chad Hugo - Can I Have It Like That (remix) Chad is the less visible member of the neptunes, and he has his own solo album coming out soon by the name of Chase Chad. This is the first leak from that album, which is supposed to be progressive hip-hop/house music. Definitely feeling this baltimore house styled remix.

4. Ghostface - Like That (ft. Ne-Yo) You’ve seen both of these names on the friday five before. This is Ghosts’ new single from his album Fishscale. I’m really feelin this one…if you dig in crates you’ll recognize the willie hutch sample used here.

5. Mobb Deep - Put Em In They Place This is Mobb Deep’s first official single from G-Unit records, from their upcoming album.

6. Pharrell - Mamacita (ft. Daddy Yankee) This is supposedly pharrell’s new single, i guess Angel didn’t do that well. I really like this one though….

7. Sean Price - Jamaican Sean Price has yet another album coming out. NC’s own Khrysis is on the beat. Sample should be familiar to DJs…

8. T.I. - Doin My Job Ok, so this track is nowhere near being new but I figured I’d put it up anyway to show those who don’t actually buy TI albums that he does have some substance to his music. Kanye on the beat.

9. Joe Budden - So Serious. This is from Joe’s mixtape, Mood Muzik pt. 2. Make sure you pick it up from somewhere, it’s dope…

10. Chamillionaire - In The Trunk Cham is part of the houston movement that’s currently dominating rap music. speaking of the houston movement….

11. Paul Wall - Just Paul Wall. Probably the dopest track I’ve heard from Paul Wall… Nice sample based beat, and an introspective song. One of my favorites from 2005. Pick up his album if you get the chance, you won’t be disappointed.

12. Smif N Wessun - Gunn Rapp Another banger produced by Khrysis, probably the best track on the album. Pick up their album if you get a chance…also check out the video, it’s gritty.

13. Busta Rhymes - Stars Are Born (ft. Redman and The Game) First off I apologize for the low quality of the file, but the song is so dope i put it up anyway. Redman shines..

14. Peanut - Hold Dat. Phonte from Little Brother’s son, hittin you with the hot freestyle, hahaha.

15. Bilal - High and Dry. Bilal has a new album coming out, you can probably find it online somewhere, but on his myspace page he requests that everyone hold on to it so that his album doesn’t get shelved by the label. Good stuff right here…

Fifteen random songs for you. Some new, some not so new, but all good music nontheless. Enjoy.

Friday Five - December 16, 2005

December 16th, 2005 by Forge

Sorry I haven’t been updating on schedule, but it’s the holiday season and you know…things are hectic. Last night I went to Charlotte because Amen and I had a show, then I drove back right after to do the 9 to 5 thing, etc…anyway, here we go:

LL Cool J ft. Juelz Santana - It’s LL and Santana. I know, weird pairing of rappers but it actually works. Sounds like Just Blaze on the beat, this is dope straight up and down. LL actually has another song out with Freeway that’s dope too, if you see that one anywhere send it to djforge[at]gmail.com for me!

Dan Johns - Learn To Burn. The homey Dan Johns has leaked this song from his current mixtape, Street Noise which you can buy on his website DanJohns.com. Definitely support this man, he’s a hard-working talented MC from South Carolina who deserves more shine than he gets…

Baby Blue, Sway, S.A.S, Bigz, Sincere, and Pyrelli Yeah!!! For some reason I’m tryin to get more into U.K. hip-hop. This track is a nice posse cut, i promise you’ll be cool if you play it! Two of the rappers featured on the song, S.A.S., are actually a part of Dipset Europe…check out the video for their song “cheerio”, it’s dope….kiss your babe goodbye, say cherioooooooo….i gotta get to london…

Rhymefest - Dynomite. Another dope one from Rhymefest, who has an album upcoming on J Records. Just Blaze on the beat (another banger!)…make sure you check out his joint “Brand New” which is his single to lead off the album (produced by Kanye)…

Redman - Rush Da Security. Not exactly brand new, but a dope joint nontheless. I think Redman has a new album coming out soon, so make sure to check for that whenever it drops.

There ya go!

Friday Five - December 2nd, 2005

December 4th, 2005 by Forge

Well I actually managed to do one this friday, how bout that!

First up, The Teriyaki Boys - You Know What Time Is It?!?. Yeah, if you can’t guess by the track, DJ Premier laced this track for them. If you don’t know about these guys, they’re a japanese rap group. Their album is actually released by Def Jam over in Japan, with A Bathing Ape sponsoring them too. This is from their new album Chicken Or Beef? which was recently released in japan and features some pretty big names on production (just blaze, neptunes, dan the automator, cut chemist), so it might be worth checking out.

Next up is Talib Kweli - Fly That Knot (ft. MF Doom). So Kweli has a new mixtape that was just released called Right About Now. To me, there is nothing wack about this track. On point production (with scratches at the end!), kweli’s flow is on point, and doom actually comes off alright on it too. Make sure you check out the mixtape (some people are saying it’s better than his last two albums)…..

Skyzoo is a name you’re going to be hearing more of in the upcoming year. “Turn It Up” (prod. Khrysis) is from his latest mixtape, The City’s Favorite, which you should pick up wherever you can find it. The mixtape features production from some familiar names like 9th, Khrysis, Illmind, etc..

Got a new song for you guys from my partner in crime, Amen. This one is called “Go Crazy” and features production by Jah Freedom. Jah’s based out of Charlotte,NC and is quite the versatile beat maker. Everything these two do together comes out crazy, and it seems Amen is really able to swagger over jah’s beats. The bassline is crazy, the hook is crazy, the joint is dope period. Right-click and save-as on the link below to download…

The last joint is “Keep On” by Elzhi. You know Elzhi from Slum Village and his solo mixtape Witness My Growth. This is a new leak from LibidoSounds . Dope beat. Dope Concept. Dope song.

Friday Five - November 12, 2005

November 14th, 2005 by Forge

First off I wanna let y’all know how hard it is for me to pick just five songs for this post each week. I listen to so much music that I’m surprised I can remember what any of it is. Nevertheless, here we go….

Tanya Morgan - A Love Joint Named Saturday. These guys are dope, we did a show with them up in NYC when we went for CMJ. They’re featured in the current issue of XXL with a full page (check it). This song is from their Sunlighting mixtape, which you can find on their website, Loud Minority Music. Make sure you check the mixtape out, it’s dope…

Robin Thicke - Wanna Love You Girl (ft. Pharrell). As usual the neptunes are all over the place, and this guy is one of their projects. You may remember his father, Alan Thicke, from the 80s sitcom Growing Pains. This is classic neptunes r&B stuff right here. Pharrell guests with a rap verse. Supposedly the neptunes are doing Thicke’s whole album, so it should be pretty dope. I apologize if the quality is sort of rough, I ripped it from a white label…

On the opposite end of the spectrum we have Mobb Deep - The Infamous (ft. 50 Cent). As you may or may not know, Mobb Deep is signed with G-Unit records now. I’m sure you’ll see G-Unit all over their release. Some people are bothered by this but I don’t care, Mobb deserves more exposure than they’ve been getting over the past couple of years. To go from being on Landspeed to being signed to G-Unit…well, that’s the definition of grinding. This particular track is produced by Alchemist who should be no stranger to you if you’re familiar with Mobb Deep. If you’ve never heard any of his work, just visit his page and you’ll realize he’s gotten quite a few street classics under his belt. This particular beat is a bit of a departure from his regular style, I can dig it though….

The Youngbloodz are a group who I don’t think get nearly as much credit and recognition as they deserve. People act like they just came on the scene with rise of Lil Jon’s fame. You remember that joint that had “85″? That used to be the shit!! Anyway, the remix to their song “Presidential” has been bumpin in the car for a couple of weeks now. Yeah, Akon is on it, but I can actually tolerate him on this song. Plus I like the scratching on this track…b-b-b-b-ounce like rubber…..

Last but not least is a joint called “Don’t Wanna Give That Up” that the group DMP put out last year on a mixtape. If you don’t know Nottz does their production, and while a bit simplistic in nature, this beat gets the job done. Nottz is known for his sick basslines, and this song is no exception. Not like hip-hop needed another song about weed, but at least this is a different twist to the subject.

There you go folks…Enjoy. Leave comments if you like what you hear

Oh yeah, I added a new song to the audio section, one I did with Dan Johns…make sure to check that out as well
