Neptunes Vs. Timbaland — Tonight!!

June 20th, 2008 by Forge

Here’s a few vids of some of favorte timbaland / neptunes tracks

Pharrell ft. Jay-Z - Frontin (I remember the summer this dropped, this song was everywhere)

Snoop ft. Justin Timberlake - Signs (for grown folks only!)

Clipse - Grindin (Clipse came out of the gate strong with this one. Neptunes ran this whole summer!!)

N*E*R*D - everybody nose (wow, they got the hipster scene nailed with this one)

Kenna - Say Goodbye to Love (don’t sleep on this guy’s album, it’s produced entirely by the neptunes, do check it out!)

Jay-Z + Timbaland - Lobster and Shrimp

Ginuwine - Same Ol’ G (one of my favorite timbaland beats ever)

Missy Elliott - One Minute Man

Total - What About Us

Aaliyah - Are you that somebody (timbaland relaunched Aaliyah’s career and this song RAN the summer of 1998. and he sampled a baby, wtf!)

I could sit here all night and do this. It’s hard to pick 10 but these are all dope tracks (and some of the ones I wanted to include are banned from embedding!). Anyway, I hope some of these joints bring back memories, and I hope it entices you to come out tonight!

Peace,

Forge.

Timbaland Vs. The Neptunes

June 16th, 2008 by Forge

Finally I get to see one of my ideas come to life! This Friday June 20th, Timbaland Vs. The Neptunes @ The Library in Chapel Hill. Gonna be a really dope event, and as you can see we have some good sponsors lined up for it. Paradime and I will be playing all Timbaland and Neptunes produced tracks all night long, starting at the mid-90s and all the way up today’s hits. Come and celebrate/appreciate these great producers with us!

TvsNfront

TvsNBack

Let’s spark it off with a gem from the Clipse. Here’s the video for “The Funeral” which I’d never seen until I was making this post. This song was on an album the Clipse made which was shelved and never released (they got dropped by Elektra back in the day). Check the appearance by a young Pharrell in the video. Circa 1997. This was ahead of it’s time I think.

And here’s a pretty unknown Timbaland-produced track by Skillz, “Off The Wall”. I used to love playing this joint on my radio show. Circa 2003 when a lot of Timbaland’s beats were instrument stabs and drum heavy (see Cee-Lo, I’ll be Around). Sorry for the piss quality of the video, but finding this one on youtube is like finding a needle in a haystack.

VA, whatup.

The DJ is Dead?!?

June 6th, 2008 by Forge

yeah, ok. Who’s running your music in the clubs? Cause it sure ain’t gettin that top 40 play. “Umma Do Me” and it’s marginal success? Thanks to the DJ!

This Weekend :: SignalFest ‘08!

April 11th, 2008 by Forge

Gonna be a good weekend in the triangle because it’s time for Signal! Signal is a small, although growing music festival based here in NC. It’s main focus is the many forms of electronic music, but since hip-hop is heavy on the production, there are some good shows going down on that side as well. I’m involved in two of these shows, and both are going to be ridiculous.

First up is tonight, Friday April 11th with a dope information panel and then performance by some of the best DJs on the planet. Babu, Rhettmatic and D-Styles are coming through to drop some knowledge on us before the show tonight. If you want to hear them speak it’s at 7pm at the art center in chapel hill/carrboro (directly beside Cat’s Cradle). After they do their thing is a show with Inflowential, Brother Reade, and Supastition! I’m DJing for Supa tonight, so come on out!

Tomorrow, Saturday April 12th is a really dope show going down at Mansion 462 in Chapel Hill. Here’s the lineup:

Tanya Morgan
Kev Brown
Oddisee
Kaze
Akrobatik
L In Japanese

I’ll be spinning the whole night, as well as holding Kaze down for his set. Come on out, it’s gonna be a dope weekend

Post Miami Mayhem

April 3rd, 2008 by Forge

So although all the really super dope parties for WMC happen over the weekend, we all had to come back because of gigs at home! And it was a nonstop weekend (good reason to come back!)

Thursday night was the first round of a DJ spinoff that’s going on here in Raleigh (see previous posts). Anyway, I think I could have done better, but people seemed to be happy. Couple of pics:
aha
gettin' it

Only had 30 mins to play a demo set, so I was kind of just throwing stuff together. Also I just found out I was in it when I was in Miami, so I didn’t have ANY prep time at all. I ran through it real quick tho, lots of bmore and electro with hiphop to start it out.

On to Friday. During the day I was spinning at the Guess store in Crabtree Valley Mall. Never done that before, gotta say it was decent. Only downside is playing clean music so that eliminated a lot that I had (again, found out I had it in Miami so no prep time, haha). Sadly, no pics of this. I packed up everything and headed STRAIGHT to the next venue!!Friday night I handled a party for UNC’s and NCSU’s KSA (korean student association) clubs. Location was Touch Ultra Lounge. This one started slow but ended up being alright:

spin spin spin

My friends Carolina and Marco, who usually hang out in the booth

friends

But then they kicked me out of the booth to take over the party

the takeover

Saturday I rested a bit but I knew I needed it because that night was the Glamour Party I was doing for Seven Entertainment. This party was insane! By 130, it was shoulder to shoulder. I went in with the mentality that I had to kill this party, and I think I did well.

spin!
spiiinnnn
carolina

Eventually it was just too hot for the button up and tie, especially when you are trying to mash out

Flashing…Lightssssssss!!
flashing lightsssss

There were professional photographers at both of the parties at Touch, so as soon as those pics come back I’ll put them up as well.

Also, I don’t care what anyone says, O’Neal McKnight’s “check your coat” is the jam! I hope it really takes off! Word to Greg Nice!!!

Ayudame! I need your help!

March 25th, 2008 by Forge

This thursday night is the beginning of a two month dj competition in which the winner gets a 6 month residency at riviera in downtown raleigh. This thursday night is the most important as crowd judging at the event, as well as online voting after the event will be factored in. The two DJs with the lowest votes will be eliminated and will not move forward

If you’re not doing anything please come out and support me and also vote online for me afterwards :)

We need better DJs in downtown raleigh, the club owners are running the good ones away. I’m gonna be playing a variety of stuff from hiphop to uptempo top 40, some electro house, and also some bmore house

If you can come, please do. Sorry for the short notice, but I was just informed last night that my mp3 submission got me into the contest.

Thanks for your time

More info:
Zspotlight contest

(this is directly related to the no rap mix I posted earlier). Thanks!

Look Ma, No Rap!

March 13th, 2008 by Forge

Made this for an event here in Raleigh. No rap (or very little of it). Something new for me, but sometimes it’s better that way (hides from the purists). This is all completely random, and I made it over night, so I don’t consider it to be stellar but it’s a pretty good mix I think.

Independent Weekly Mix…

February 13th, 2008 by Forge

The Independent asked me to make a mix for them to stream online for the story they are running on the Love Is Local Show on Friday. I threw this together last night. 3. Jean Grae - Love Thirst
4. AZ - Fire
5. Slum Village - Feels So Good
6. Freeway - When They Remember
7. Evidence - Chase The Clouds Away
8. K-Hill - Quit rappin Today
9. Median - How Big Is Your World?
10. Kenn Starr - U Will
11. Supastition - Worst Enemy
12. Das Efx - They Want Efx
13. House Of Pain - Jump Around (pete rock remix) - transition
14. Main Source - Live At The Barbeque
15. Redman - Time For Some Akshun
