Last night was a big night for hip-hop in NYC as Q-Tip performed at the Knitting Factory. From what I’ve read he laid down some classics as well as performed some material from this new album Rennaissance. Check the video below for what could be one of the best shows you never went to. I’m seriously regretting not flying up for this one. I’m hoping a tour is in store and he’ll be making his way down to NC. What happens at 6:48 in to this video is the definition of what makes hip-hop so great. I could feel the energy even just sitting here. Big up MissInfo/MikeyFresh for the video.
This movie is either going to make me extremely happy by blowing my mind, or it’s going to disappoint me and I’ll want to throw something at the movie screen. Hopefully it’s the former as I would hate to see big’s legacy tarnished.
I’ve read these guys’ name at more than a few places, but admittedly haven’t had a chance to get familiar with their music as of yet. I think in this case, the video lends heaps of personality to the song, which could explain why I like it. Looks like I’m gonna have the check these dude’s out.
For those that don’t know, Nate Dogg has been hospitalized recently with a second stroke. Steve 1DER put together a best of/tribute mix of the best of Nate’s work to date. 1DER is a dope DJ and this mix is, as expected, very well put together. Best wishes to Nate and his family, and here’s to a speedy recovery.
I felt pretty good about last’s years Dilla Walk, and thought it’s about time to do something else positive. So myself and Kaze, as well as a couple of co-workers have signed up for the 2008 Walk For Hope. The walk’s mission:
The mission of the Foundation of Hope is to promote scientific research aimed at discovering the causes and potential cures for mental illness in order to develop a more effective means of treatment. Additionally, the Foundation is committed to raising community awareness and supporting effective treatment programs.
Last year the walk raised over $450,000 so I definitely want to be a part of helping to top that number. I was able to raise quite a but of money for the dilla walk last year, so I want to top that this year, I’m setting my goal at $200.
We’d like to show that the hip-hop community is fond of giving back in some way, so even if you can only give $5 or less, it’s still appreciated. Click below to go to my walker page:
I was a huge fan of the original motivation mixtape that mick boogie and benzi put together (thanks to Andrew from 3Sixteen who gave me a copy last time I was in NYC), so I’m pretty excited to hear this, and thought I would share it with anyone that reads my blog.
the long awaited project with lil jon is finally ready! this follow-up to motivation from earlier this year with fatman scoop reunites benzi with mick boogie and introduces dj neoteric to the mix! motivation 2 is presented by cake clothing is jam packed with over 50 joints and is flawlessly mixed back to front! check below for the tracklisting..
If you don’t watch It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, you’re totally missing out. This show is genius. Here’s a promo video they’re running right now, with Jeru remaking “Going Back to Cali” as “Going Back to Philly”
And now a random clip from the show, I present to you, “Dayman.” (via Hulu, which is an awesome site where you can watch episodes of this show and many more!)
(I was going to continue this entry with some music vids of my favorite Philadelphia based artists, but UMG has a lot of those videos blocked from embedding on youtube)
