Neptunes Vs. Timbaland — Tonight!!

June 20th, 2008 by Forge

Here’s a few vids of some of favorte timbaland / neptunes tracks

Pharrell ft. Jay-Z - Frontin (I remember the summer this dropped, this song was everywhere)

Snoop ft. Justin Timberlake - Signs (for grown folks only!)

Clipse - Grindin (Clipse came out of the gate strong with this one. Neptunes ran this whole summer!!)

N*E*R*D - everybody nose (wow, they got the hipster scene nailed with this one)

Kenna - Say Goodbye to Love (don’t sleep on this guy’s album, it’s produced entirely by the neptunes, do check it out!)

Jay-Z + Timbaland - Lobster and Shrimp

Ginuwine - Same Ol’ G (one of my favorite timbaland beats ever)

Missy Elliott - One Minute Man

Total - What About Us

Aaliyah - Are you that somebody (timbaland relaunched Aaliyah’s career and this song RAN the summer of 1998. and he sampled a baby, wtf!)

I could sit here all night and do this. It’s hard to pick 10 but these are all dope tracks (and some of the ones I wanted to include are banned from embedding!). Anyway, I hope some of these joints bring back memories, and I hope it entices you to come out tonight!

Peace,

Forge.

Timbaland Vs. The Neptunes

June 16th, 2008 by Forge

Finally I get to see one of my ideas come to life! This Friday June 20th, Timbaland Vs. The Neptunes @ The Library in Chapel Hill. Gonna be a really dope event, and as you can see we have some good sponsors lined up for it. Paradime and I will be playing all Timbaland and Neptunes produced tracks all night long, starting at the mid-90s and all the way up today’s hits. Come and celebrate/appreciate these great producers with us!

TvsNfront

TvsNBack

Let’s spark it off with a gem from the Clipse. Here’s the video for “The Funeral” which I’d never seen until I was making this post. This song was on an album the Clipse made which was shelved and never released (they got dropped by Elektra back in the day). Check the appearance by a young Pharrell in the video. Circa 1997. This was ahead of it’s time I think.

And here’s a pretty unknown Timbaland-produced track by Skillz, “Off The Wall”. I used to love playing this joint on my radio show. Circa 2003 when a lot of Timbaland’s beats were instrument stabs and drum heavy (see Cee-Lo, I’ll be Around). Sorry for the piss quality of the video, but finding this one on youtube is like finding a needle in a haystack.

VA, whatup.

Did you realize…that you were a champion?

June 11th, 2008 by Forge

Yes I did!

I’m proud to announce that I’m the winner of Riviera and Zspotlight.com’s first ever Vinyl Project! The contest started back in March with 12 DJs and made the rounds to the trendy downtown spots (Riviera, Mosquito, Haven, White Collar, and Ess) and I made it all the way through to the take the prize (six month residency at Riviera and a stack of one-thousand one dollar bills)!

Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know that I won, and since I hate talking about myself, I’ll keep this short and just put up a bunch of pics from all the nights.

I want to extend the following thank-yous ::

Zspotlight and Riviera (especially Rodney and George), thanks for making this happen (and making me rich, HA)

To my DJ bretheren for inspiring me to do more, most notably: DJ Mensa, DJ SK, DJ Paradime, Mike Danger, DJ MC, Miss Kittie, Triple B, DJ Merlin, and Son of Sam. OH, and also to contest DJs Lotta Noize and Adonis!

To the homies at 3Sixteen for keeping me laced throughout the contest!

To my family for the support and encouragement. Unexpected text messages that read “kill em” or “good luck” meant more than you know!

Last and certainly not least, maybe even most (hey maybe I should have put you MF-ers first!), my friends who were there to support me throughout the contest (this seems like a convenient time to post pics):

Ricky & Sophany

Niki

+ her friend Katie (making faces at me as I’m trying to DJ…thanks!)

Kim and Ruthie (the korean connection!)

Gianna, Kim, Ruthie and Carolina

Marco and Carolina (especially to Carolina who held it down for all the shows, and is responsible for all of these pics!)

Peace and I’m Out!

Toronto Tunes (Ayah ft. Tona - Pusha Man)

June 6th, 2008 by Forge

If you haven’t heard of Ayah yet, you may wanna start checkin for her. She hails from Toronto and her sound is oh so soulful. Check her new song “Pusha Man” which also features Toronto emcee Tona (really dope) and is produced by the homie Lyve (also from Toronto!)

Love the whole style of that joint. So soulful!

Elle Aye!!

June 4th, 2008 by Forge

Last week I took vacation out to LA to hang out with Mike Danger and MC. It was memorial day weekend so there were parties EVERYWHERE. The first day we got there we went straight to In-N-Out (so necessary) then to Mike’s house to get a practice session in

MC and Rude

Me (needed the most practice, ha!)

That night, Mike and MC both had parties, we decided to stay at Mike’s because the consensus was that we wouldn’t be able get in at MC’s party if we went late. We BARELY got into Mike’s party at shag, and honestly we only got in because Amy is so awesome and rushed us in :). The party was crazy:

Me, Amy, and Paradime

++ Rude

Dime had a little too much to drink

The rest of the trip went pretty fast, here’s a couple of highlights though

trip to the arcade!

Utah, Dime, Mike, MC, and me

We stickered up our macbooks

Stopped by interscope

GOOD food everyday

All in all, this was a great trip, and it’s made me consider maybe moving out there in the next year. W e shall see. Big up to everybody, especially Mike and his family for their hospitality, to Earl, Rude, and Utah for hangin out, to Amy for getting us in at opera, big up to Jeff at Premium Label as well. Can’t wait to go back!

The entire picture set is at the bottom…

Get macromedia Flash Player

edit :: oh yeah, I also copped this pair of blazers

which brings me to this song by Tiron (from Cali), called “throwin my money”
