Gonna be in fayetteville for a whole weekend DJing at Club It’z. It’z is a huge place, with plenty of room for lots of people. They have two huge bars so getting your drinks won’t be a problem at all. I’m DJing 10-12, then 1:30-3.
Address:

50 Cent - I Get Money…
This is easily the hardest track of the summer (like funk flex says at the beginning, haha). The use of the audio two sample is genius, and this is the best 50 song in a looooooooooong time

Mark Ronson - Stop Me (ft. Daniel Merriweather)
I met Daniel Merriweather back when I went to Australia in March. It was his last night in Melbourne as he was setting off the next day for the states to work with Mark Ronson and several other big names. This is one of the singles from Mark Ronson’s upcoming album that they recently shot a video for. Shouts to DM!

Stop annoying the DJ (an ongoing series)…
I plan on making this an ongoing series here on the site. I’ve been doing clubs for about a year now so I’ve had some time to build up my party skill, but on the flip I’ve had quite a bit of time to observe the type of people that come to party.
Before I get started ranting about the specific types of people I dislike, I first want to say that I do enjoy most of the people that are at the clubs I spin at. There’s nothing like the feeling you get when you drop a song and you get a collective “ohhhhhh!!” from the crowd (and it’s an especially potent rush when you can do that throughout the night). The people that come to a party and enjoy themselves with others, and just have fun are my favorite party-goers. They are the reason I really do enjoy Djing in clubs. However, like most subsets of people on earth, there are some bad apples.
The first installment of this series will be dedicated to someone I like to call Demandotron (fitting, since the transformers movie was just released). Demandotron is a person who makes a request (more on requesters in a future update) and expects to hear their song at that very instant. Just telling Demandotron that you will play their song is not enough. Once you run through two to three songs and they don’t hear what they want, they will make another appearance at the booth. It’s at this point that Demandotron will ask you “how much longer until you play it?” My answer will vary but for the purpose of this story, I will reference an actual event from a few months ago:
Demandotron returns to booth asking when I will play her song…
Me: Hmm, give me about fifteen minutes and I should be able to fit it in.
Her: Fifteen minutes?!?!?
Me: Yeah, I have to fit it in with what I’m doing now, so it’ll be a few minutes
Her: (in a high pitched two year old voice) BUT I WANNA HEAR IT NOWWWW!! (as she stomps her feet in a fit)
So as you can see, Demandotron’s secret weapons are a combination nagging and intimidation. Fear not fellow DJs, for I will teach you how to deal with her. The most effective tactic is actually quite simple, just ignore her! Once she is done with her fit, just get back to what you’re doing and act as if she isn’t even standing there. This will deal a devastating blow, as Demandotron is fueled by attention. Victory will be yours!
You may have noticed that I have referenced Demandotron as “her” quite a few times, and with good reason. Demandotron is usually a young woman (most often spotted while spinning for college fraternity/sorority parties) who is used to instant gratification and being catered to. If you’re lucky maybe you can be her first taste of reality.
The DJ is not your personal jukebox.

Yes (just check the video below for proof)! Congratulations to P for locking down a weekly show on Hot 97 on Sunday nights. Not in New York? No Problem, just check his website for the shows after they air. Real music on the radio. Thank you.

Yes! After a year of not recording, and hardly making beats for anyone, the dynamic duo may be returning! A said he was cleaning out his car and found an old beat CD of mine, and whaddya know, he went and recorded a song to it. As mentioned in the song, the beat is circa ‘05, but the heat is very ‘07!!!!

So a couple of months back I got a weekly gig at a place on south Glenwood here in Raleigh called Hi-5. Hi-5 has been around for years and is well known for always being packed on the weekends. Each time I’ve played here the place has been flooded wall to wall with people, and it’s always a good time. So, make sure you come out every saturday night to check me out. I play current hip-hop and some top 40, throwback hip-hop, some 80s, and just about whatever I feel fits the mood. If you’re not familiar with downtown raleigh, here’s the address (with a google maps link) so you can map it out:

can i borrow a dollar?
I just found this post that I made about two months ago and never actually submitted…so here ya go!
Long story short, last night the party I DJed ended with a fight breaking out at 2 am (right in the middle of Candy Rain, you bastards!!!!!). Didn’t really phase me as it wasn’t my usual spot and I was just doin it for some extra loot. Anyway, I get my money, grab my last crate and start to roll out. Some drunk guy decides he wants to follow me to the car (”hey, you the dj from tonight? hold on man, i gotta holla at you”). The whole way I’m walkin to the car he’s dropping me some story about how the bartender just gave him a $20 for a cab, but he needs $10 more to make it home (yeah, new one!) and wants to know if I can help him out. I tell him sorry I can’t help him and then he starts into this story about his sound equipment at home and that I NEED to help him out because he might be able to do something for me (debatable, he could possibly have but who really knows that???).
We get to my car, I drop my crate in the trunk and politely say “sorry man, I really can’t help you out. everything I have is going towards rent” (which is completely true). He asks if I can at least give him $5. I tell him “nah man I just can’t spot you anything tonight.” Then he wants to argue with me!! “You don’t have to pay rent! you ain’t gonna pay rent. rent ain’t due right now!” So I said “aight man, it’s whatever you wanna think, sorry I couldn’t help you though.”
Then he wants to YELL at me “rent ain’t due til I say it is!!” and starts grillin me hard like he’s about to jump on me or somethin. I could see that this was going to end in one of two ways. Either 1)I’m going to drive away with no problems or 2)I’m going to be a smart ass and possibly get jumped, robbed, etc. (although he was drunk, he was pretty big and I’m a little dude, plus I was solo). I’ll take option 1, thanks (i should probably start bringing people with me, who knows what the hell can happen these days).
But hey, if you spent money to get downtown and then spent enough money to get piss drunk, then you need to learn to budget for your ride home too!!
Shoot, I just worked 11 hours on my feet, went home long enough to change clothes and grab my gear, and then DJed for 4 hours. I work hard for my money, what makes you think I’m just going to give it away?!?!?!
I guess my only real point here is…ah you know what, I don’t really have a point, I just wanted to rant. Anybody else have similar stories?
